Writer, Digital Nomad, and Queer Traveler

Hi, I’m Rohan.

Like most 20-somethings, I’m a hopeful traveler, and I’ve just set off on my journey.

Rohan traveler 50 first stepsI’m a writer, a freelance writer, and so I suppose I’m quite untethered to the physical world. My journey as a traveler, a Digital Nomad, has only just begun, and I hope to take you along on all my misadventures.

I’d always wanted to be a traveler. I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of wanderlust, by the idea of backpacking. It always sounded so positively bohemian and liberating. But I was also afraid that I was just romanticizing that concept in my head… that when it came down to it, I’d be happy to sightsee for a few days and then return to the safe cocoon of my home…

And now, having started my journey, I know one thing for certain… I can never go back.

So I’m carrying on, one step ahead of the other, and I invite you to follow me along.

I’m not a professional travel writer, not by a long shot. I can’t wax eloquent about whether a certain luxury hotel bears an art-deco facade or if the architecture is baroque.

But I can write about my personal set of anxieties and experiences. Anxieties about getting lost, anxieties about meeting new people, not meeting new people. I can tell you what it’s like to desperately get on Tinder or Grindr as soon as you land in an airport, hoping not for sex but for connections. I can tell you what it’s like to realise, too late, what a ‘Balinese Happy Ending’ means in massage terms. And I can even tell you about that time I went to a gay-only nudist resort, all giddy and excited, only to find… well, I’ll save that one for another post.

I can help you avoid needless extravagances and ‘tourist traps’, and instead find something more meaningful in a new land.  Perhaps I can even share some of the tips I’ll pick up along the way, tips about how to be a smart traveler, or maybe just tips about how to not be a total mess. I can only hope that my experiences will apply to you too.

So travel with me… read on, if you will.
